How does Dementia affect daily living?
Dementia is a deterioration of intellectual function and other cognitive skills, leading to a decline in the ability to perform activities of daily living. Dementia is progressive decline in cognitive function due to damage or disease in the brain beyond what might be expected from normal aging. Affected areas may be memory, attention, language and problem solving, although particularly in the later stages of the condition, affected persons may be disoriented in time (not knowing what day, week, month or year it is), place (not knowing where they are) and person (not knowing who they are).

How can Visiting Angels help you with the care of a loved one with Dementia?
Most people hope to age safely and comfortably in their own home, including those managing Dementia. Many Dementia patients can safely stay in their own home for a period of time, and that’s where we can provide care assistance.  Our caregivers receive training through the Alzheimer's Foundation of America's Dementia Care Professionals training program.  The program provides essential information for the safe and effective care of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and all other types of dementia.  The training leads to qualification as a AFA Qualified Dementia Care Provider along with membership in the Dementia Care Professionals Association.
