A little more than a month after opening a Visiting Angels home care franchise, Joe Freud already is talking about growth.

Freud, who opened a non-medical senior care agency March 1 in Office This, hopes to increase his employment total to around 75 or 100 people before year’s end. He opened Visiting Angels with 30 employees.

Freud says he also eventually will need more space for the agency’s administrative needs.

It’s all to provide a care option for seniors who want to stay in their homes. Visiting Angels provides non-medical services, such as running errands, medication reminders or companionship.

Freud says the agency can provide round-the-clock services or just be available for a few hours at a time.

“We’re just the front end until it’s time to do something else,” Freud says of the level of care Visiting Angels provides.

The agency, he says, often partners with nursing homes and assisted living facilities when care needs go beyond its level of expertise.

“The whole industry is kind of collaborative,” Freud says.

Freud started Visiting Angels after years in the corporate world, most recently as a vice president of operations for Norcraft Co. It was a position that brought him to Newton six years ago.

But Freud says he was ready for a change.

“I wanted to do something that would help some people,” he says.

A friend told him about the Visiting Angels concept and Freud was hooked.

He says the demand for senior care will continue to grow as the population — especially the baby boomers — continues to age.

“It’s a huge population,” Freud says.
