How Visiting Angels Annapolis In Home Health Care Can Help With Long Distance Caregiving

Long-distance caregiving is often necessary when an elderly parent doesn’t reside in the same area as you. The most common reason for this is that mom and/or dad retired and moved to a state with warmer weather. Whatever the case, your parent(s) needs help and you can’t let distance stand in the way of them receiving quality in home health care.

At Visiting Angels of Annapolis, we are realistic. We know that your family may be scattered across the map. Not only do parents retire to warmer states, but adult children do as well. This is in addition to moving for a career. Regardless of the situation, long-distance caregiving will ensure that your parent receives the care that he or she needs.

HOW TO START LONG-DISTANCE CAREGIVING

Starting long-distance caregiving is as simple as calling us and getting connected with the office that is closest to where your parent lives. From there, Visiting Angels of Annapolis will get your loved one on track to start receiving in home health care, so you can take the weight off your shoulders.

The next step is to speak with you on the phone to get an idea of the care that you and your loved one are looking for. Some of the things that will come up during the conversation are:

  • Where your parent resides
  • Where you reside
  • The kind of care that your parent needs
  • The frequency of care needed
  • The length of care visits
  • The level of involvement your parent will have
  • The existence of chronic conditions, such as dementia, Alzheimer’s, or Parkinson’

After you have given us all that information, we will schedule a free, no-obligation in-person visit at your loved one’s home to discuss care going forward. A care coordinator will sit with your parent to see if he or she has any concerns about the information you’ve given us, and we will craft a plan from there.

We will then carefully select a caregiver that is right for your parent so that his or her unique needs can be met. This caregiver will provide care on the schedule that was created and report back to the local Visiting Angels office. The team at the local office will also make sure to keep the lines of communication open with you to make sure your parent is receiving quality care.

If you’ve found yourself in a situation where your parent needs in home health care but you do not live close, call us.
