How to Celebrate National Senior Citizens Day with Your Loved One

As a professional elderly care provider, Visiting Angels can help you find ways to celebrate National Senior Citizens Day with your loved one in Aspen Hill, Silver Spring, Laurel and surrounding areas in Maryland

As the leading provider of elderly care in Aspen Hill, Silver Spring, Laurel, Bethesda, Colesville and surrounding communities in Maryland, it is our mission to make this world a comfortable place to grow old. We have designed various services that help seniors maintain their independence and age at home where they feel safe and loved.

This is why August 21st is so important at Visiting Angels of Aspen Hill. On this day, people across America celebrate National Senior Citizens Day and everything seniors have done for our country. Although they deserve to be honored every day of the year, we are proud that people in our country recognize our elderly population every August.

What is National Senior Citizens Day?

We understand that National Senior Citizens Day is not as famous as other holidays such as Mother's Day or Father's Day, but it is still a very important one. It has been celebrated since 1988 when Ronald Reagan made it a national holiday. He then wrote something that is true even three decades later: "For all they have achieved throughout life and for all they continue to accomplish, we owe older citizens our thanks and a heartfelt salute."

Reagan also asked that citizens of America make sure that communities in our country are good places in which to mature and grow older. That is something that Visiting Angels as a provider of in-home elderly care can get behind.

Celebrate in Style

The best way to celebrate this holiday is to spend time with loved seniors in your life, whether they are your parents or grandparents. Many restaurants and shops offer a special discount for seniors on this day, so take your loved ones out and have a great time together at places like Pike and Rose in Bethesda.

Maryland is full of history and opportunities to learn about the area. You and your loved ones can enjoy the various museums in the area, like the National Capital Trolley Museum in Colesville or the National Museum of Health and Medicine in Silver Spring..

Since it's summer, you should also consider spending some quality time outside. Have a relaxing picnic or take a nice walk in Aspen Hill Local Park. You and your loved ones will enjoy the fresh air and warm sunlight.

On the other hand, there is nothing wrong with spending a night in. You can cook your loved ones' favorite meals, play games with them, reminisce, go through old family albums, watch movies they like or simply spend time talking to them.

A Message from America's Choice for Elderly Care

We work hard every day to ensure that seniors in our elderly care lead active and happy lives. This is why this holiday is so important to us. In the words of our CEO and President, Larry Meigs, "There's no holiday that exemplifies what we do at Visiting Angels as well as National Senior Citizens Day. And so, as America's choice for elder care, we would like to wish you, your family, and all of the seniors in your life a safe and happy National Senior Citizens Day this August 21st!"
