Halloween Activities for Families and Seniors in Atlanta East

The leaves are falling, the air feels brisk and that can only mean one thing. Autumn has arrived. And with the new season comes another Halloween. Although Halloween isn’t traditionally a family holiday, that doesn’t mean families can’t make the most of the season. Whether you’re a large family with tons of kids, or a close-knit group of adults, there’s plenty of activities in Atlanta East and surrounding areas for families and seniors alike to enjoy!

At-Home Festivities for the Family Halloween Activities for Families and Seniors in Atlanta East

With a global pandemic still among us, staying at home may be the best option for many seniors, especially those with dementia who may have an easier time being spooked when out at night. Thankfully, there’s tons of activities for the whole family to participate in without having to leave the house.

  • Enjoy a virtual haunted house. Haunted houses can be a blast, but they can also be a falling hazard for seniors. Instead of risking an injury running from goblins and ghouls in a crowded haunted house, cuddle up on your favorite chair with your family and travel through a virtual haunted house via your computer or smart TV. Some popular options include the Winchester Mystery House and the Salem Witch Museum.
  • Have a movie night. Whether you’re alone for a night or you’ve got your family nearby, you can’t go wrong with a Halloween movie night. Dim the lights, grab a blanket, and turn on a spooky movie for a night of fun! Not sure what to watch? Try a classic film such as Halloween or The Nightmare on Elm Street. Lots of young kids in the family or not into scary movies? Turn on a family-friendly film such as Hocus Pocus or Goosebumps.
  • Carve some pumpkins. Pick up some pumpkins from the grocery store or a local farm and spend the afternoon carving pumpkins. You can make traditional Jack-O-Lanterns or pick up some paint and pipe cleaners from the craft store to make pumpkin spiders. Plus, once you’re done, they make great outdoor decorations for trick-or-treaters.
  • Get creative with a family costume contest. Turn on your artistic switch and have a homemade costume contest with your family. You can get extra creative by setting a time limit and creating a costume using only materials you can find around the house. If you’re not feeling safe to have your entire family over, this can be done virtually via Zoom or Skype.
  • Get in the kitchen and make some tasty treats. Grab a spatula, your favorite apron, and head to the kitchen to whip up some tasty Halloween treats. You can bake cupcakes and decorate them with festive tops or make your own homemade candy corn. If you’re not feeling confident in the kitchen, try some of these no-bake treats!
