Caregiver of the Month: Kristine P.

Kristine, mom of four, came to us after hearing about Visiting Angels of Auburn from a friend. Kristine is approaching her second year with Visiting Angels of Auburn. During her 30 years of marriage to her husband in the military and 18 moves later, Kristine was ready to commit to becoming a caregiver with the understanding that her family- husband, kids, and grandchild Gracie come first.

Kristine has enjoyed the flexibility that caregiving allows- being able to take on shifts that also allow her time to be a Nana and a mom. She describes her challenge with the position initially as having trouble turning down work offered to her since there are so many great people in need of our help. Once Kristine found her flow with the position- for her it was working overnights, it was easier to set boundaries and commit to a schedule that was right for her and her loved ones.

From the time Kristine spent taking care of her mother-in-law, she learned early on it is important to get to know about someone and their background when caring for them. If you go into it with a "what would it be like if I were in this position" mentality- it is easier to empathize and know where your clients are coming from.

Kristine is from Candia NH and once baked 1000 gingerbread cookies during the infamous ice storm of 2004 with her four kids during a power outage with the help of a generator that her husband got going for her. All her efforts were in vain though when she then found out that the event she had made them for- Ice on the Hills- was cancelled.
