Could Chocolate be the Secret to Health?

Chocolate, specifically dark cocoa, can provide positive health results for mom or dad. This is specifically from dark chocolate. Milk chocolate is much higher in sugar and corn syrup, and is not as healthy as the dark chocolate. Even if your mother or father is diabetic, they can still enjoy their chocolate, but in moderation, like everyone else.

The professionals from our elderly care services are not recommending that your loved one, diabetic or not, sit down and partake in a box of chocolate bonbons. Like all foods, everything should be consumed in moderation, and that specifically goes for sweets and treats like chocolate, even if it is medically useful. Studies indicate that dark chocolate is high in polyphenols which act as antioxidants that may prevent heart attacks. However, too much sugar will cause other health issues, so elderly care services once again remind mom or dad to consume the chocolate appropriately.

Studies also indicate that not all chocolates are equally as healthy. Dark chocolate eaten regularly in small amounts may reduce blood sugar and decrease insulin resistance. There is another study that indicates high cocoa quantities may decrease cholesterol levels as well. However, white chocolate for most does just the opposite – causing blood sugars to rise, increasing the need for insulin.

Elderly care services are not promoting using chocolate as the sole means of controlling mom or dad’s health, whether it be blood sugar, cholesterol, fatigue, etc. Instead, they are sharing the findings from studies that cocoa may assist in the reduction of these levels if eaten in moderation. In the majority of instances, your parent should be able to enjoy his or her chocolate and satisfy their taste buds.
