Roaring Thunder For Vets Event July 9th, 2022

‘WOUNDED AMERICA’ CHARITY MOTORCYCLE RIDE

As everyone knows or should know by now, Robert our fearless leader, is a veteran. To be more precise, a marine. SEMPER FI! He would love to be able to volunteer, organize, work, or somehow participate in every event that raises money, awareness, and/or some kind of benefit for all veterans. Unfortunately, he is one man, and can only do what he can, that is within human limits.

We here at Visiting Angels Dearborn are very lucky, we have an amazing organization in not only our territory, but in the Downriver area. This amazing organization is Downriver For Veterans. Which you can find out more information on them by clicking on this link: www.downriverforveterans.org

The Downriver For Veterans is a non-profit organization that helps all veterans in Michigan and tirelessly works to give physical and emotional help. They organize many different events to educate and give entertainment. The most important events that they sponsor and organize are the events that raise money and/or where donations are received.

Please do not think that they are all alone in the wonderful duty of helping our Michigan local heroes! There are several active associations and chambers that also volunteer, sponsor, and raise money for Michigan veterans. Two in the particular really work alongside the Downriver For Veterans, Allen Park Chamber of Commerce and Downriver Business Association.

The Allen Park Chamber of Commerce is a private group that host several informative events. These events are providing small business owners information on “How To” marketing, networking, advertising, and other resources that can help them grow. But, they also work with the Downriver For Veterans to relieve Michigan veterans from their physical and emotional burdens. Some of the members help to create flyers for the Downriver For Veterans events or update their social media with colorful flyers or posts for the everts. Many of their members volunteer at the events. They have a great relationship!

Let us look at the Downriver Business Association now and how they contribute to the welfare of Michigan veterans. This association is a public group. They strive to “support local businesses, network with one another and give back to the community”. Robert and Visiting Angels Dearborn are members and it’s a great partnership! The Downriver Business Association works very closely with the Downriver For Veterans as well as partners with the Allen Park Chamber of Commerce on numerous events. The association promotes not only the small businesses that are members, but also many fundraisers and good-for-the-community events in the surrounding Downriver area. The Downriver area is a unique area made up of several towns that connect. If an individual mentions they live in the Downriver area, they will have to specify which town. But these towns are one big community called, Downriver.

Robert and Visiting Angels Dearborn are proud to be a small part of the Downriver area. We provide home care services. This means we have caregivers, American’s Choice Caregivers, that work closely with any adult that prefers to stay in their own home and be comfortable. The majority of Visiting Angels Dearborn’s clients consist of senior citizens who live in some of the Downriver area and surrounding parts. Because of the care that is given to any adult who needs and/or wants it, Visiting Angels Dearborn comes into contact with many veterans. This is where the Downriver For Veterans comes into play!

Almost anything the Downriver For Veterans does to raise funds and awareness, Visiting Angels Dearborn supports. One of the events that is held annually is the ‘Wounded America’ Charity Motorcycle Ride. Not only is this event sponsored by the Downriver For Veterans, but also the Rotary clubs of Dearborn Heights, Grosse Ile, Southgate, Taylor, and Trenton

In 2021, the ride went though Trenton all the way to Taylor with the path running through Dearborn Heights. If you are interested in reading an article on the 2021 ride click here:

https://www.downriversundaytimes.com/2021/07/16/wounded-america-motorcycle-ride-benefits-local-veterans/. They raised about $30,000 and had about 200 riders. There were many restaurants that participated by donating food and drinks. Many restaurants in the Downriver and Dearborn Heights areas, have special discounts for veterans. The ceremony at the end of the ride took place at Motown Harley-Davidson.

This year the same fine Rotary clubs will partner with Motown Harley-Davidson and H.O.G. Ch #4375. Downriver For Veterans and Foundation 14 will be helping veterans in need with the money raised. Foundation 14 is a non-profit that supports veterans with PTSD. To learn more about them, please click here: www.foundation14.org. If you would like to participate in this event, it is $250 to sponsor a bike. An interested person, business, or parties can contact Visiting Angels Dearborn for a form to fill out. If you miss this years ride, you can always participate next year.

This may be for motorcycle lovers, but if you want to take part in the action, the riders could always use cheerleaders. Many come and stand on the side. There is cheering and signs held up to show support. If you are nervous about getting on a bike, then stand and cheer the riders on! You can also donate your time or money. And, if you are feeling very generous, you can donate your and time and money! Of course, this isn’t the only way you can donate.

If you are interested in helping our local Michigan heroes, you can always volunteer at the Downriver For Veterans. They always need volunteers! If you live further away, you can always send them the needed items that they list on their website. There really is no excuse for not being able to volunteer or donate.

Coming back to Visiting Angels Dearborn and Robert, we are more than happy to help point you in the right direction if you would like to help Michigan veterans. We also are experts when it comes to home care. Our goal is to provide families with care that takes the burden off of them. We want to give families back the ability to enjoy time together.
