Palliative Care

Palliative care focuses on the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of those living with serious illnesses. This comforting care helps individuals manage their symptoms, pain, and stress – regardless of life expectancy – and also offers support to families and loved ones.

Visiting Angels' comprehensive Palliative Care Certification Program approaches care with a holistic mindset. The overall mission is to restore hope and assist in the healing process by fostering a supportive and soothing environment for individuals who need this specialized service.

The program is offered through Visiting Angels' Life Care Navigation™ collection of senior care services. Life Care Navigation™ also includes end of life care, which can give your loved one comforting care and assistance during the end of life process.

What is Palliative Care?

Palliative care aims to relieve symptoms and stress from serious long-term illnesses and health conditions – during any stage. Services promote a sense of peace and well-being, regardless of life expectancy, to enhance quality of life for individuals and their families.

Palliative care provides comfort for individuals who are suffering from symptoms of serious illnesses such as:

  • Cancer
  • Heart Disease
  • Kidney Disease
  • Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  • And many other serious conditions

While most people use the terms “hospice and palliative care” mutually, these two are different services. At their core, both seek to relieve physical and emotional pain and distress. Hospice care, however, is typically reserved for those who are nearing the end of life.

Palliative care is for individuals who need:

  • Assistance for aging or chronic care concern
  • Physical, emotional, spiritual, and social care
  • Personal care services
