Quick Tips for Fall Prevention
- Put commonly used items in easy to reach places for simple access. Avoid placing items that you may need often on high shelves, out of reach to minimize the need to overextend or stand on chairs or stools.
- When picking up items from the floor, be sure to find something sturdy to provide added balance.
- When bathing, use extra precaution. It is a good idea to invest in non-skid tub mats or a hand held shower.
- Choose furniture that is not too low to the ground. Furniture with sturdy arms and more structure can provide a safer experience when getting up and down.
- Hold onto something! If you or your loved one struggles with getting around, talk to your doctor about devices such as canes and walkers that can provide additional support.
