In Home Care Services For Active Seniors In Fresno, CA

The Risk of Inactive Activity

Although it may seem that activity may increase the risk of injury, the National Institute of Health states that remaining inactive is actually more harmful. Visiting Angels Fresno incorporates activity into our in home care services.

“For the most part, when older people lose their ability to do things on their own, it doesn’t happen just because they’ve aged,” the NIH said. “It’s usually because they’re not active.”

The U.S. Surgeon General’s Report on Physical Activity and Health (https://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/sgr/olderad.htm) shows that the benefits of activity are:

  • Ability to live a long life, with less risk of falling down
  • Reduced risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and colon cancer
  • Improved strength and stamina in those affected with debilitating or crippling conditions
  • Better well-being and less symptoms of anxiety and depression
  • Healthier muscles, joints and bones, as well as relief from pain caused by arthritis

Improved Outlook

Many family caregivers experience feelings of guilt over not encouraging their loved one to stay active enough, or at least not knowing how to go about it.

Our care coordinators are more than happy to discuss this during our free, in home care visit. Simply knowing how to push your loved one will show improved health and outlook, and our caregivers can discuss how to.

When creating a customized care plan for your loved one we discuss what your loved one does day to day, activity to cooking. Their care plan is then created based on the in home care services they need.

Areas of Activity

In order to get your loved one active, we focus on four areas of activity (https://go4life.nia.nih.gov/4-types-exercise). Your loved one can do activities to improve these areas at home with our caregivers assistance.

  • Endurance: Make it easier to walk around the house and go out shopping.
  • Strength: Maintain muscles so it isn’t such a hassle to carry groceries or keep up with energetic grandchildren.
  • Balance: Improve stability and decrease the risk of falling. Falling is one of the top concerns for aging adults, as one in four seniors fall each year.
  • Flexibility: Stay nimble and more easily get dressed, put on shoes and reach shelves and cupboards.

The main thing to remember about daily activity is that it is better to do something than nothing. Even if your loved one wasn’t active before, it’s better to start now than never.

We provide a daily log to keep track of you loved one’s daily activities.
