Fundraising for Alzheimer’s Research & Awareness

Visiting Angels has been providing in-home care for families in the Great Lakes Bay Region for nearly 20 years. Serving our community doesn’t stop with home care services; we have also spent many years as active supporters of our local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support and research. The organization’s mission is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

Partnering in the Fight Against Alzheimer’s

Our office staff and caregivers have seen firsthand the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s disease has on the seniors living with this illness as well as their family members and loved ones. For some of our staff members, Alzheimer’s has had an impact on their personal lives as well.

Kay Krajkowski, the Care Coordinator at our office in Frankenmuth, MI, traveled to San Antonio, TX last year to participate in the 2019 Alzheimer’s Association. Kay first became involved with our area’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s in 2011. Alzheimer’s disease is one that personally affected Kay and her family, as he father had battled the disease until 2012.

On getting started with the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, Kay said:

“My father had Alzheimer’s and I knew that I needed to do something to help end this disease that was taking the father I had known away. I have continued to be involved with the Walk Planning Committee in memory of my father, in honor of my mother who was his caregiver. I want to see an end to Alzheimer’s.”

Fundraising Success in 2019

Visiting Angels of Great Lakes Bay ended 2019 on a high note. As part of the Saginaw Walk to End Alzheimer’s, our team received a special donation for becoming the ‘Most Improved’ Visiting Angels fundraising team in the nation.

Our team was awarded $5,000 from Visiting Angels CEO Larry Meigs and the corporate office. The extra donation brings our fundraising total to $13,527, helping the Saginaw Walk to End Alzheimer’s event pass its 2019 goal of $68,000 to a total of $71,788 raised.

“Visiting Angels would like to thank all of our family, friends, and business partners who have supported and contributed to our efforts over the past 8 years ,“ says Doug Hammond, President of Visiting Angels – Great Lakes Bay.

“It is truly amazing the support we have been shown for such a terrible disease. Currently, there is no way to slow, stop or cure Alzheimer’s but we will continue to work and fundraise towards that day when we can slow, stop and hopefully cure Alzheimer’s.   As Visiting Angels – Great Lakes Bay rolls into 2020 so will our continued efforts to End Alzheimer’s.”
