Benefits of Companion Care

Visiting Angels Horsham offers a program called Companion Care to assist you with taking care of a senior or disabled love one. Life is busy and sometimes a helping hand may be needed to ensure your senior loved one has all of their specific needs met. Let’s explore the many ways the Companion Care program can assist you and your loved one.

Virus Prevention

Since March 2020, the highest priority has been minimizing the possibility of contracting COVID-19. The caregivers within our Companion Care program follow the recommendations of the Center for Disease Control to ensure all precautions are taken to protect your loved one. These protective measures include wearing a mask and disinfecting household areas to reduce the spread of the virus. The Companion Care program also offers other light housekeeping tasks to ensure overall cleanliness in the home.

Meal Preparation

The planning, shopping and actual preparation of meals can be time consuming and physically taxing. Consider it done. Our caregivers are experts at ensuring your loved one has the groceries they need, including healthy food options for proper nutrition and hydration.  Ultimately, nutritious eating will help prevent illness and improve overall quality of life. Sometimes, without oversight with meals, seniors may eat pre-packaged, highly processed foods high in sugar, fat and cholesterol. In addition, meal preparation requires stamina which may be a challenge for some seniors.

Laundry

The physical exertion required to complete laundry can be challenging for senior loved ones.  It may require carrying the basket of clothes, lifting a heavy bottle of laundry detergent, reaching overhead to hang clothes in the closet, stooping and stair-climbing. In addition, clean clothes are a fundamental need for overall good hygiene. Our caregivers can complete those loads of laundry so you don’t have to.

Running Errands

Does your senior loved one need their medication retrieved from the pharmacy, favorite flowers from the nursery or other odds and ends? Let us run those errands so that you can focus your time and energy on other important matters.

Companionship

Socialization and companionship are important for the overall mental health of seniors and to prevent feelings of isolation and depression. A caregiver from Visiting Angels can provide additional company for your senior loved one in the following ways:

  • Take walks together
  • Converse on favorite topics and reminisce about enjoyable past life events
  • Look at photographs, play card games
  • Connect clients with family and friends electronically

Benefits to the Family Caregiver

Not only does Companion Care provide many benefits to your senior loved one, but benefits you, the family caregiver, as well.  There are only 24 hours in a day, so time management is the key. Here are ways the Companion Care program can benefit the family caregiver:

  • Saves time on basic daily tasks
  • Peace of mind due to additional “eyes on” your senior loved one to monitor safety and reduce the chances of a readmission to the hospital
  • Saves money on care in comparison to costs of assisted living or a skilled nursing facility
  • Prevents family caregiver burnout
  • Helps redefine roles so you can return to the role of “child” or “spouse”, and let the Visiting Angel’s companion be the caregiver
