Thrifting for Fun with Seniors and Caregivers

It’s great to go out and explore the wonderful world of thrift stores, but as we get older, it may be harder to do it safely by ourselves. For seniors aging in place in their homes who may no longer have access to a car, shopping at leisure may seem like a hobby for days gone by. The good news is Visiting Angels of Hurst is here to help. They can provide professional, compassionate caregivers perfectly matched to each client. Visit the website or call (817) 952-3223 to find out more about how Visiting Angels can help your family.

Hurst is lucky to be surrounded by a ton of great thrift stores for many adventures with a caregiver and their client. Below are a few that might interest your thrifty loved one.

Dapper

209 Bedford Rd Ste 145, Bedford

Dapper is a small trendy thrift shop within The Awareness Project nonprofit headquarters in Bedford. All proceeds from sales help fund community outreach and volunteer projects. They specialize in upcycled furniture, fashion-forward, trendy clothing, shoes, and items for the whole family.

JnJ’s Vintage

This vintage thrift shop is more than just a store; it’s a vibe. Shoppers should be prepared to spend some time looking at the variety of items to find that perfect treasure at the perfect price. Clothes for men and women are offered at JnJ’s family shop in addition to cool vintage objects, and don’t forget to look up if you are looking for a baseball cap!

Mission Central Thrift Store

722 East Pipeline Road, Hurst

The Mission Central Thrift Store provides high-quality merchandise at an affordable price. All items are deeply discounted so customers can easily find quality clothing, housewares, and furniture for their families. The store sells only donated goods. Mission Central relies on the generosity of people in the community to keep our racks and shelves stocked with merchandise. All donations are fully tax-deductible and can be made during the store’s business hours only.

Thrift for Good

120 W Bedford Euless Rd, Hurst

Open since October 2020, Thrift for Good is a different kind of thrift store – focused on quality control and merchandising. Their goal is to sell stuff thrifters want to buy, organized in the way they want to shop, in a clean, bright retail shop. Each purchase made at Thrift for Good enables them to give more to charity – 25 percent of proceeds go to the charity of the donor’s choice. And donated goods that cannot be sold are given to the TFG Charitable Supply to be distributed, for free, to various charities that can use them.

Goodwill Super Store

825 W Pipeline Rd, Hurst

Goodwill North Central Texas strives to be good stewards of all that they are given to ensure the best future for students, clients, the community, the organization, and the planet. The organization is proud to be a leader in sustainability and one of the largest recyclers in North Texas. Goodwill North Central Texas meets the growing needs of businesses, government agencies, and local organizations to up-cycle and properly recycle items they no longer need. Over the past decade, its recycling initiatives have evolved into an approach that, as of today, diverts more than 2,000 tons of waste from landfills each month.

Harvest House Resale Store

349 NW Renfro, Burleson

The Resale Store is a shop that serves the clients of Harvest House and is also open to the general public. Clients receive vouchers based on the need to buy clothing items. All inventory also is available for sale to the general public. Proceeds from the Resale Store benefit the ministries of Harvest House.

Texas Thrift Store

1105 W. Pipeline Rd, Hurst

Texas Thrift and its sister stores, City Thrift and Music City Thrift, have spent the last 30 years becoming the thrift lover’s thrift store, but their vision goes beyond that. The family of thrift stores meets the needs of thrifty families by supplying a huge array of unique, quality, gently used merchandise at prices far below retail. Each day, experienced retail professionals place thousands of clothes, accessories, furniture, household items and more out on the sales floor to create a treasure hunt shopping experience. The three stores provide local jobs to over a thousand individuals across the southern United States and help keep millions of pounds out of landfills annually by recycling gently used garments, giving them a second life.

Thrift store shopping is a great way for seniors to get out of the house, explore retail goods without spending a lot, and enjoy the company of a good companion. If your senior loved one could use help leaving their home safely, giving you peace of mind, call Visiting Angels of Hurst today at (817) 952-3223 to set up a consultation for your family.
