Students, Parents, and Retirees: “Caregiver” Might Be the Perfect Role for You

If you have experience working as a caregiver, yours is an in-demand skill set. Providing care to elderly or sick patients in their homes is a role with a positive outlook for career growth. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports: “Overall employment of home health aides and personal care aides is projected to grow 36 percent from 2018 to 2028, much faster than the average for all occupations. As the baby-boom generation ages and the elderly population grows, the demand for the services of home health aides and personal care aides will continue to increase.”

What it Takes to Qualify

Visiting Angels Caregivers who provide clients services through our Hurst office are required to have at least one year of professional experience working with seniors in a similar agency setting (skilled nursing, hospice care, etc.). We also prefer that our caregivers hold a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license. Caregivers also need to have a heart for caring for seniors - engaging with them, spending time with them, and caring for their needs.

Caring Careers

Visiting Angels Caregivers provide services to clients in their homes. These may include:

  • Running errands such as trips to the grocery store, pharmacy, or medical office
  • Cooking and light cleaning
  • Providing medication reminders
  • Offering grooming, hygiene, and restroom assistance
  • Helping seniors to stay safe in their homes by offering movement assistance
  • Extending specialized care such as respite care, palliative care, dementia care, and end of life care
  • Providing seniors with company and joyful companionship on a routine basis

Many caregivers who have worked in this role say that one of the best parts of the job is getting to know the clients and becoming a special part of their lives.

Covid-19

Visiting Angels is committed to keeping our caregivers and our clients safe and healthy through the protocols we institute. Caregivers are trained to ensure that they maintain safe and healthy practices. Our organizational mission is to make seniors’ ambition to age in place healthy and successfully; our Covid-19 protocol furthers that mission by adhering to the CDC’s standards and keeping both our caregivers and our clients safe.

Careers with a Future

No matter where you are in your career trajectory, furthering your skills as a caregiver is a career with a future. According to a recent survey conducted by the Association for the Advancement of Retired Persons (AARP), nearly three of four adults over 50, or about 75 percent, want to age where they currently live.
