Visiting Angels, the nation’s leading provider of in-home senior care, announces Esperanza “Marty” Lusby as one of the 10 semi-finalists for its prestigious National Caregiver of the Year award.  

Marty is small but a mighty caregiver. Since joining Visiting Angels Kennewick, WA, in 2008, she’s provided over 200,000 hours of care. She often goes above and beyond, looking for ways to provide her clients with comfort and joy, such as offering a soothing foot soak, crafting them a bouquet of fresh flowers, or making house visits as an “elf on the shelf” to spread the holiday spirit. Office staff, clients, friends, and family describe Marty as a bundle of joy.

“She’s the kind of person who walks into a room and instantly makes everyone feel better—clients, caregivers, even our office staff,” said Christine Rose-VanWormer, owner of Visiting Angels Kennewick, WA. “She doesn’t just care for people; she lights up their lives.”

Caregiving is an around-the-clock role for Marty. If she’s not with a client, she’s taking care of her own husband, who is facing his own health challenges. Despite the workload, she’ll adjust her schedule to ensure continuity of care for clients, even visiting one at 5:30 a.m. to help them start their day and returning at 9:30 p.m. to help them get comfortable at night. 

“Marty was pivotal in ensuring my grandma’s comfort. She’s the only one that my grandma trusted,” said Jonathan G., grandson of a client. “The best thing about Marty is her positive attitude and energy. I don’t know where she gets it all from, but it’s life-changing.”

The Visiting Angels National Caregiver of the Year Award celebrates the extraordinary contributions of caregivers who provide exceptional care to senior clients and their families. The 10 semi-finalists were selected from nominations nationwide, honoring caregivers who embody Visiting Angels’ caring values, demonstrate professionalism in their work, and show a commitment to improving the lives of seniors and their families.

The winner of the 2025 Caregiver of the Year award will be announced at the Visiting Angels annual conference in June. The grand prize recipient will receive $10,000, and two finalists will each receive $5,000.
