Three ways to embrace spring

Three ways to embrace spring

Happy spring! After the long, chilly winter, it’s always such a thrill to see the days get longer and warmer and to see the flowers, birds, and butterflies return. This year, spring feels especially welcoming as the pandemic seems to be far more under control than it was a year ago. It’s wonderful to be able to contemplate what the summer months may hold.

It feels like we missed the spring and summer last year. That means, this year, we must get double the enjoyment out of this beautiful season. After a long winter and a long pandemic, you are probably ready to step out and put some fun activities on your schedule. The CDC reports: “If you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing many things that you had stopped doing because of the pandemic.” Talk with your doctor first and confirm what is recommended for you, and then get ready to savor the spring.

Enjoy those activities that make this season feel so meaningful. Visiting Angels of Knoxville, Tennessee can help you or your loved one embrace spring 2021. Here’s what you need to know.

A companion to get you back into action

Life in quarantine has been difficult. It’s been lonely, boring, isolating, and sad. As more people are getting vaccinated, it extends more safe opportunities for seniors to venture out. As you talk with your doctors, make sure that you fully understand their recommendation about how to stay Covid-safe, as well as any limitations of which you need to be mindful.

Then invite your Visiting Angels Knoxville Caregiver to help you ease back into your social life. From hygiene and dressing assistance to help getting to classes, events, and appointments, you can count on your Visiting Angels Knoxville caregiver to help you get back on track socially. If you are not quite ready to be entirely social yet, your caregiver can come and join you for a walk in the park, around the neighborhood, or an indoor track.

It can feel a bit challenging to get accustomed to being out and about again. Many people are easing in slowly. Your caregiver can help you find your social sea legs again. Know that if it takes you a little time to feel comfortable, you are not alone.

Prepare your garden for the season

There’s nothing like the joy of preparing your garden for another season. There’s a special happiness that comes from being in the presence of thriving, growing plants. It is not just good for your mindset; it’s also good for your health. Gardening has been known to have many wellness benefits for seniors. It can reduce stress, bolster the immune system, and it’s even thought to make the brain more resistant to dementia. Plus, gardening is a good exercise that can yield healthy produce.

Give plenty of thought this year to what you need to see. Maybe a butterfly garden with lots of colorful flowers this year? Maybe this is the year that you do an herb garden that smells glorious and gives you plenty of fresh ingredients. Make this year’s garden a celebration of all that you’ve weathered over the last year and a place for you to enjoy during the coming season. Your Visiting Angels Knoxville Caregiver can assist with runs to the garden center or walks in the park for inspiration.

Make your plans

Buy a giant calendar, and start making your summer plans. Entertain in your garden, if that is safe and recommended for you, or fill your days with classes and activities if your doctor is on board. Buy your pool or gym pass. Plan a day trip or host a visit with family. As long as you’re working with your doctor and you have a clear sense of what is safe for you, take the time to make your plans for a fun season. Make up for the time that we lost last year.

Know that however you embrace the spring, your Visiting Angels Knoxville Caregiver is there to help facilitate that success. If you need rides, you can count on your caregiver for that help. If you need support, your caregiver is there. If you need groceries or meals, your caregiver has got you covered.

Let us do the chores so that you can go out and have some fun. You’ve been home long enough and you’ve earned it! Contact Visiting Angels of Knoxville online or 865-531-4833 to learn more.
