We are honored to award Aba Owosu Angel of the Month for August 2018. Aba began working for Visiting Angels in September of 2017, primarily providing live-in care to our clients.
Aba came to the United States from Ghana in 2011, moving to Rhode Island where her brother resides. (Congratulations, Aba, for recently becoming a U.S. citizen!) She has two beautiful children who are currently spending time with their father in Ghana, with plans to come back home to America soon.
Aba moved to New York City for a couple of years, and while there, became a home health aide (HHA). She learned a great deal about dementia care and other important skills she has continued to use as an incredible Caregiver. Her sister was her parents’ primary caretaker and Aba assisted her in caring for them. She was very young when she learned to give support to her elders. Aba spends her free time on FaceTime with her daughter and son or at the local public library in Rhode Island. She is interested in furthering her education by going to nursing school and explores study material and medical cases. She loves the library, and thoroughly enjoys reading.
The Case Managers who interviewed Aba described her as intelligent, thoughtful, gracious, caring, outgoing, confident, knowledgeable and compassionate. They both believed that Aba would be great to work with and she has proven them right. Aba has since worked with eight clients most of whom are extremely challenging cases. She has used her patient manner, creative thinking, and discipline to successfully navigate through each situation. Aba always calls back to follow-up on a voicemail left for her. She is willing to help no matter the situation and rarely turns down a shift offered to her. She will oblige and take on the task regardless of distance or weather conditions.
Aba, we are grateful for all that you do and your wonderful care of your clients. We want you to know how much Visiting Angels appreciates and values you. That is why you were chosen as our Angel of the Month for August 2018.
