Visiting Angels Newton/Canton is happy to award Elizabeth Namutebi Angel of the Month for July 2020. She began working with us in January 2014. Elizabeth was an ideal candidate because she presented herself professionally, had a vast knowledge of caring for the elderly, and excellent communication skills.
Always a team player, Elizabeth is passionate, dedicated, timely, organized, compassionate, detail-oriented, and committed to her clients’ needs. She began her career as a caregiver for seniors in 2001, earning both CNA and HHA certifications. She finds great satisfaction in contributing to her clients’ well-being.
Elizabeth shared her perspective on how to be an impactful caregiver. She said, “I find great reward in watching my clients progress positively or feel better through my care and attention to their needs. When I first meet a client, I assess their requirements and make a plan in my mind about how I can best help them. I have learned through my years of experience to redirect and reapproach clients who may have memory loss or dementia. I’ve learned to be patient and persistent if my client is adverse to support. And, if a situation is challenging and I can, I will step away to regroup and center myself.”
For the past six years, Elizabeth has been providing excellent care to one of our clients. She has been a leader in a team of five caregivers, always communicating concerns and changes in our client’s status, as well as providing valuable information and training to new caregivers. Unfortunately, a lot has changed for our client since she began services with us. Elizabeth has been supportive through her decline, all the while maintaining a client-centered focus and empowering her as much as possible. She does all this with compassion, empathy, kindness, and reassurance. Because she is deeply concerned for her client, Elizabeth takes the initiative to make sure that the entire team is updated on our client’s physical and emotional conditions.
Elizabeth takes her work very seriously, and her expertise is evident to all who work with her. She offers the quality of services that we at Visiting Angels Newton/Canton take pride in, and with Elizabeth, her efforts come from the heart.
Elizabeth was born and raised in Uganda and began caregiving at a very young age. As the fifth of eleven children, she was tasked with taking care of her siblings when she was thirteen years old. After primary school, she went on to a boarding college to earn her educational degree. She taught early childhood education for ten years. When Elizabeth moved to the United States, she did not find teaching here appealing, so she decided to put her nurturing skills to good use by devoting her career to caring for the elderly. How fortunate this has been for our clients and all of us at Visiting Angels Newton/Canton!
Outside of her work as a home caregiver, Elizabeth has many interests. She has two adult children and is a devoted member of Waters Church in Norwood. She loves to dance and thrives on being surrounded by happy and enthusiastic people. She is also looking forward to spending more time outdoors again in the future. Elizabeth is an incredibly strong and determined person who has overcome many challenges in her life.
Elizabeth, thank you for sharing your tremendous depth of skills and passion with our clients. We are thankful to have you as a member of the Visiting Angels Newton/Canton team. It is our honor to award you, Angel of the Month for July 2020.
