Marthe has been with Visiting Angels Newton/Canton for just over two years. She has been on the same live-in case since she began with us. Marthe moved to Massachusetts from Rwanda 13 years ago to be with her sister and her family. Her husband and five children still reside in Africa. Marthe plans visits annually to be with them.
Marthe was a nurse back in Africa and worked in a local hospital. She was a “floater” that would work in all departments. She has taken her knowledge and skills with her into her care for her Client. Marthe brings great judgement, expertise and intelligence to her work.
Marthe’s parents are her role-models and she has dedicated herself to carrying on their spirits of compassion and caring for others. Her father was a pastor for their local church. He and her mother took in several orphans in their community and Marthe’s mother would care for them as her own. Marthe also has siblings, so their home was filled with great love and sacrifice. Marthe has made the choice to live a life of giving to honor her parents and contribute to the world in a meaningful way.
Marthe’s Client has a complicated medical history. She has met each challenge professionally and with the ability to handle complex medical concerns. She is consistent with her reports to her Client’s Case Manager and is responsive to questions, as well as able to adapt to changes in care quickly. Our Client’s family has expressed their gratitude for her compassionate and knowledgeable care.
During a recent hospitalization our Client expressed great concern about losing her as a Caregiver. He worried that she would accept another Client if his stay was lengthy. He was determined not to lose her and to prevent that, he kept her on as his Caregiver during his hospital stay.
Marthe has a good sense of humor; she is smart, observant and caring. She has gone the extra mile time and time again and has made herself flexible with scheduling. She provides consistent contact and followup with her Client’s doctors, providing accurate reports of his condition. This medical consistency has become crucial to her Client’s care. Marthe has found clever ways to achieve success with helping her Client through obstacles and times when he was resistant to staying hydrated, organizing and self-care.
