Patricia Durrant-Campbell - Angel of the Month, June 2020

Angel of the Month

ANGEL OF THE MONTH | Patricia Durrant-Campbell

June 2020

We are excited to award Patricia (Pat) Durrant-Campbell Angel of the Month for June 2020. Pat began working with Visiting Angels Newton/Canton in May of 2005. Pat decided to take some time off from working to focus on raising her children. She re-joined Visiting Angels Newton/Canton in January of 2017.

Pat has over twenty-five years of caregiver experience in total. She was a private caregiver before joining our team and has had predominantly long-hour and live-in shifts. Pat fondly recalls when former-co-owner, Eileen, brought her to her first client with Visiting Angels Newton/Canton. Pat explained why she has chosen to work exclusively with our agency since leaving private care. “Visiting Angels Newton/Canton has shown me so much, love. I have always had wonderful clients with this agency. I am cared for and appreciated here.” She also shared, “Case Manager, Elizabeth Quagraine, deserves an award! She is an amazing person, caring, and understanding. She is supportive and makes sure I am comfortable.”

When asked what led to Pat becoming an in-home caregiver, she shared that her mother was diagnosed with dementia when Pat was in her early 20’s. She and her two sisters cared for her mother. Pat and her family hail from the island of Jamaica. Several of her family members moved to Queens, New York. As Pat prepared to follow, she decided she was going to be a caregiver for the elderly. She has always been naturally compassionate and empathetic towards others, and caregiving was the perfect fit for her. Pat moved to Massachusetts early in her career when her friend (a former Visiting Angels caregiver) suggested she interview with Visiting Angels Newton/Canton.

Pat is very proud of her children and shared that she has two daughters and two sons. Her oldest son and daughter are married with children, and she has two grandchildren. Her youngest son is in law school, and her other daughter is attending college for a degree in Health Services Administration.

When asked about her time with her present client, to whom she is a live-in caregiver, Pat said, “My client is a phenomenal person. I have been with her for three years now. She is like family to me. My client is very active and loves to go for walks, exercise, and play games. One of her favorite games to play is bingo. I am highly sensitive to her needs and requirements. She loves my food and all of the spices I use. We have a great time when her family comes to visit.”

“My advice to others would be, pay close attention to your client’s needs. Do your work to the best of your ability every day with compassion. Some clients may behave negatively at times, remember to rise above those challenges, and find creative ways to redirect them.”

Case Manager, Elizabeth Quagraine shared, “Pat is so pleasant, reliable, very dedicated and has kept everything in our client’s household running smoothly. She calls me to give me updates about the case and never has a complaint. She is an outstanding caregiver, and I am thankful to work with her.”

Pat, we genuinely value your kindness, warmth, and skilled care. We are so grateful to know you and have you as part of the Visiting Angels Newton/Canton team. We are honored to award you, Angel of the Month, for June 2020.

We look forward to working with you for many years to come.
