Expressing thankfulness to our Veterans and our Country.

Veterans Day is Thursday, November 11, 2021. We encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the lives lost and the lives altered in making America the Great and Free Country we are today. Visiting Angels is a non-medical home care company, we make it our mission to provide exceptional care for these men and women in our community.

On Veterans Day, let us all be encouraged to express our gratitude to our Veterans for their hard work and dedication to making our Country, our home, a place of freedom. Their bravery has not been forgotten. To honor our veterans, we want to share a few ideas on how to celebrate Veterans Day. Listed here are some ways to help make the day special for the Veterans in your life.

1. Donate to a Reputable Veterans’ Charity or Service Organization.

Veterans Day is a great opportunity to donate to a charity or service organization that helps seniors in the local community. Here are a few recommendations:

1.       Vehicles for Veterans when you donate a car to Vehicles For Veterans, you can help to fund disabled veterans and other veteran programs throughout the United States. Your car donation will help to fund many wonderful programs and services available to veterans and their families.

2.       Wounded Warriors Family Support Their mission is to provide support to the families of those who have been wounded, injured, or killed during combat operations.

3.       Moving Veterans Forward is dedicated to helping homeless Veterans in Iowa and Nebraska to get placed in homes.

4.       U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs provides general info and additional resources.

2. Join Visiting Angels as we participate in the National Two-Minutes of Silence.

On November 11, all Americans are invited to participate in the observance of a two-minute national moment of silence based on their local time zone. Taking the time to pause quietly and join your thoughts with thousands of other Americans is a great way to ensure you remember the purpose of Veterans Day. The moment of silence begins in Central Standard Time at 1:11 p.m. For more information, read more about how this became public law in 2016.

3. Support a Veteran in their time of need.

Many Veterans may fight their Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) on their own. This can present itself in various ways, help your loved ones know that they are not alone, direct them to resources that can help them. The Veteran Crisis Center can help with a list of support resources and a Veteran Crisis Line: 1-800-273-8255 (press 1), or text 838255.

4. Visit Your Local VA Hospital or living facility.

Contact the local Veteran hospital or the Eastern Nebraska Veterans’ Home for volunteer opportunities. Also, consider offering to provide your own small gesture like a basket of goodies or comfort items (blankets, hygiene, socks) for veterans living in the residence.

5. Wear your Red, White, and Blue.

Show your appreciation and support for our country by proudly displaying our Nation’s colors. Veterans Day is an important day to recognize all the men and women who have served our country so well. It is the least we can do to show our support and gratitude for making this country a better place.

Elmer Davis once said, “This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.” Let us continue to show our gratitude for our Veterans and our Country as the land of the free and home of the brave.

Veterans hold a special place in our hearts at Visiting Angels. We work closely with the Veteran’s Administration to provide care for many Veterans in the Omaha Metro Area, whether that is companionship, housekeeping, errands, or respite care for families. Whatever the need may be, we proudly serve our Veterans, give the office a call for more information at 402-917-8225.
