Ways To Show Your Senior You Are Thankful for Them

It’s a great time of the year to show the senior loved ones in your life that you are thankful for them. Whether you do it by spending time with them, calling them from across the seas, or telling them face-to-face, it’s something that will make both of you feel better.

As the days tick down toward Thanksgiving, here are 25 fun, creative and meaningful ways to show your seniors in the Winter Park area that you are thankful for them this season.

  1. Put down the phone and give them your undivided attention.
  2. Write them a letter listing the top 10 things that make you so thankful for them.
  3. Bake their favorite pie for Thanksgiving dinner.
  4. Record them telling some of their favorite stories from days gone by.
  5. Wear that sweater they knitted for you, even if it fits a bit snug.
  6. Go for a walk together and ask questions to show how interested you are in their life.
  7. Have them make their famous dish for Thanksgiving dinner, and tell them how important it is to the meal and to your family traditions.
  8. Make a thankful jar for Thanksgiving, where each person at the table puts in a few folded slips of paper stating what they are most thankful for. Make sure you write your senior love one on one of the slips, all of which will be read aloud before dessert.
  9. Anticipate their needs, and be helpful first without making them ask for help.
  10. Ask them to help make the place cards for Thanksgiving dinner, and trust their judgment to decide where everyone sits.
  11. Head to the beach, and as you walk in the sand, talk about memorable family trips you took with them as a child.
  12. Find out what dish they loved most at Thanksgiving as a child, and recreate that for your feast this year.
  13. Pull out old photos and home movies of Thanksgiving past, and relive those together.
  14. Go shopping for gourds, pumpkins and decorations for your Thanksgiving centerpiece, and ask them to help arrange it.
  15. Ask them to say a blessing before the meal.
  16. Help them paint their nails or style their hair for the big day.
  17. Give them a handwritten invitation to Thanksgiving dinner, and tell them it won’t be the same if they aren’t there this year.
  18. Put them at the head of the table, or in a seat of honor for the meal.
  19. Serve the sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top, even though you hate them, but because it’s their favorite side dish.
  20. On the ride home from Thanksgiving dinner, start talking about upcoming holiday fun you can have together for the Christmas season. Letting them know you’re planning to spend more time with them, and giving them something to look forward to, will help them know how important they are to you.
  21. Turn on the football game they’re eager to watch this Thanksgiving.
  22. Have everyone go around the table at Thanksgiving dinner and say out loud why they’re thankful for Grandma or Grandpa this year.
  23. Watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade together.
  24. Pick out a new sweater for them to wear to Thanksgiving dinner.
  25. Give them a long hug when they arrive, and tell them how thankful you are that you’re spending Thanksgiving together this year.
