MAKE VALENTINE DAY SPECIAL FOR THE SENIOR IN YOUR LIFE
Everyone can celebrate Valentine’s Day! Here’s some easy ideas how to make it special for that Senior in your life and provide some fun for the whole family:
- Start breakfast off with heart shaped pancakes, or bake cookies or cupcakes to have as a treat for lunch or dinner. A little bit of red sprinkles can go a long way.
- Play “Name That Love Song!” Find a radio station that plays golden oldies, or use an app on your phone to find Grandma or Grandpa’s favorites.
- Have fun with bingo cards, and play the game using little heart candies instead of chips!
- Bring over a plant tied up in red ribbon with a balloon and greeting card, or loose pink and red flowers you can arrange in a vase.
- Make and color (or paint) cards for beloved grandchildren or other relatives you can later mail.
- Cut out a heart picture frame from red or pink construction paper and decorate it with beads and or sparkles etc., before you attach a family photo and then mount it on the fridge.
- Watch a classic “rom-com” or old romantic movie favorite on TV.
- Make some pink “mock”-tails from cranberry juice or raspberry seltzer type drinks – then put a strawberry garnish on top.
Remember that just your presence can be a present in itself! If you live a distance away, send a care package to provide warm greetings and let your loved one know they’re in your thoughts. Assemble a basket that incorporates savory treats, with handmade gifts and photos from family and friends. Even better – send a companion from Visiting Angels to spend some quality time with your loved and ease their loneliness. It costs less than you think and provides peace of mind!
Last but not least, February is American Heart Health Month, so it’s the ideal time to discuss exercise and nutrition with Senior loved ones.
Till Next Time!
