Emergency Disaster Planning

Visiting Angels does vital work for elderly and adult residents in the communities we serve. The caregivers make sure that clients have what they need to lead happy and healthy lives. Living alone can be challenging, but through regular visits, caregivers help clients to maintain a tidy home & safe environment, a good nutritional routine, and exercise with outdoor living when possible. Our clients & their families know that they can count on Visiting Angels to refer compassionate, caregiver caring caregivers to maintain independent and dignified lives.

Another key dimension of Visiting Angels’ care is that the caregiver supports their clients’ changing needs. If clients or their families call with an immediate issue or concern, they can rest assured that their call will be returned within 15 minutes, no matter what time of day or night that call is placed. If that client needs a visit, he or she can count on assistance through the caregiver & Visiting Angels. It’s a relief to know that a helpful voice, positioned to intervene and provide solutions, is just a phone call away anytime.

This support is essential for the day-to-day issues that can arise when it comes to caring for an aging loved one. It also gives clients and their families piece of mind to know that Visiting Angels Staff is trained and ready to deploy a plan in the case of an emergency.

Visiting Angels sees our clients as our top priority. So, when something unexpected happens, they’re the ones we’re reaching out to assist.

Angels mobilize in Florida
Last September, Hurricane Irma wreaked havoc throughout the state of Florida. Floridians who were left to deal simply with power outages and fallen tree limbs considered themselves the lucky ones, knowing that others were hit much harder. But losing power and dealing with hurricane fallout can be especially dangerous for elderly residents.

To reach our vulnerable clients, the Visiting Angels in the Pasco/North Pinellas & Tampa/East Pasco offices mobilized our disaster recovery plan. Even though our offices were without power for 10 days, Visiting Angels still confirmed that all clients were safe. Caregivers accepted clients to check on each their well being.

Caregivers made sure that each client was accounted for, and they had the basics they needed to weather recovery. Visiting Angels Staff monitored the situation and remained in contact with clients and their families until clients were able to return to their home, businesses in the area were reopened for business and power was restored.

Training for the unexpected
While Irma was unexpected, the disaster recovery plan was put into place long before the storm had ever amassed. Preparing for the unexpected is simply part of administering care. It’s one more way that clients and their families can rest assured, that Visiting Angels cares about the Clients & their Families.

Visiting Angels works from a plan that is a regular part of our professional training. We know what to do if the unexpected happens.

When you put yourself or your loved one in the hands of the Caregivers referred by Visiting Angels, you can count on reliable care, even during emergencies, both big and small. Feeling properly cared for isn’t just about knowing that your needs are going to be met today, it’s about knowing that you have a safety net during difficult times. This makes clients and their families know they are part of something bigger, they are part of a community of caregivers that truly has their best interest at heart. That’s what it means to have the Angels on your side.
