Silver Surfers Program
In an effort to help seniors around the community get comfortable with the ever-changing world of technology, Visiting Angels has launched a program called “Silver Surfers” that will help them learn to “surf the net.”
Our plan is to connect with our clients and other older Americans around the area to teach them some of the more popular tech tools including text messaging, the Internet, Facebook, Skype, etc.
These days many seniors are staying connected with their families through technology. The intent of the Silver Surfers Program is to help bridge geographical and generational gaps by encouraging our clients and our local community to stay engaged with their loved ones and to remain an active part of their lives.
This program is especially helpful for people who have family members who don’t live close by in that it provides a convenient way to engage and communicate. We are excited about reaching out and giving back to the communities around us!
A recent study shows that by surfing the net, seniors can reduce depression by 20 percent. Other studies show that using social media such as Facebook can improve mental cognition and memory. It is our hope that by helping to teach people in the community to use these tools, we can improve their lives and overall wellness in many positive ways.
