Can VA Benefits Help Pay for Home Care Services?

Many families worry about their ability to afford senior care services. However, affording care from Visiting Angels can be made easy by looking into additional benefits.

Aid and Attendance benefits can help elderly veterans and surviving spouses pay for professional care at home. Aid and Attendance can be added to the monthly pension your loved one already receives through the VA in order to offset the cost of care.

Your loved one may be eligible for Aid and Attendance if they:

  • Require assistance with activities of daily living
  • Are bedridden or unable to move without assistance
  • Are a patient in a nursing home
  • Have specific vision limitations

If you’re unsure whether your loved one is eligible, Visiting Angels is here to help! Our team can help you determine your eligibility and guide you toward the right steps for applying for additional benefits.

What Resources Are Available for Senior Veterans?

If your elderly loved one is a veteran or surviving spouse, you should definitely look into your local Veteran Community Partnership (VCP). VCPs are designed to unite veterans, caregivers, VA facilities and community health providers in order to provide essential resources for veteran’s care. These partnerships aim to increase communication, improve coordination of care services, develop contacts between VA and community organizations, provide education on important VA resources and so much more.

Did you know that Allison Larking, one of our Visiting Angels team member and Regional Director of Business Development & Strategic Partnerships, SF Bay Area, is the Chairperson for the East Bay Veterans Community Partnership (EBVCP)? The EBVCP was created to raise awareness of issues that affect veterans, educate the community on topics related to veteran-centric care and fostering relationships between community members and veterans.

The EBVCP meets at the VA in Martinez on the second Wednesday of every month from 1:15pm -2:15pm.
