Caregiver Named Semi-Finalist for the National Caregiver of the Year

Visiting Angels, the nation’s leading provider of in-home senior care, announces Shannon Neal as one of the 10 semi-finalists for its prestigious National Caregiver of the Year award. 

In Shannon Neal’s three and half years with Visiting Angels Santa Monica, CA, she’s been known for her calm, compassionate presence and dedication in even some of the most difficult situations. 

“Shannon is everything a caregiver should be. She brings hope, stability, and dignity to her clients,” said Matthew Rieth, co-owner and Director of Business Development of Visiting Angels. “She is, in a word, dedicated. She shows up no matter what, even the day after her sister passed. We call Shannon our ‘difficult case whisperer,’ as even our most challenging clients seem to trust her when no one else knows what to do.”

Shannon is highly skillful at working with clients who suffer from dementia. Her patience and ability to navigate the complexities of their needs allow her to offer an exceptional level of care. She works to build genuine relationships with her clients, bringing them stability and hope.

“Shannon became one of the few people that my mom could get along with at the end,” said Scott B., son of Shannon’s client. “If Shannon were there, my mom would eat and do anything else that Shannon wanted her to do. Despite her dementia progressing, she continued to recognize Shannon.”

The Visiting Angels National Caregiver of the Year Award celebrates the extraordinary contributions of caregivers who provide exceptional care to senior clients and their families. The 10 semi-finalists were selected from nominations nationwide, honoring caregivers who embody Visiting Angels’ caring values, demonstrate professionalism in their work, and show a commitment to improving the lives of seniors and their families.

“Shannon represents Visiting Angels’ mission, which is to provide compassionate and reliable care that allows our seniors to age gracefully in place,” said Larry Meigs, CEO of Visiting Angels. “She brings hope and stability to those who need it most, and we are proud to honor her as a semi-finalist.”

The winner of the 2025 Caregiver of the Year award will be announced at the Visiting Angels annual conference in June. The grand prize recipient will receive $10,000, and two finalists will each receive $5,000.
