This year, one special caregiver has consistently gone above and beyond the call of duty and we are honored to recognize her for her excellent service and commitment to our clients.
2023 Angel Of The Year: Judy Moon
It takes a special kind of person to comfort a stranger; to look at someone you just met and say, ‘I want this person to feel safe and loved.’ With both enthusiasm and a gentle hand, you must be willing to assist someone with incredibly personal tasks, all while navigating the emotional vulnerability that comes with needing help. Yet, for some people, this gift seems to come naturally. Judy is a shining example of this. When asked what she feels are the most important qualities and values in the caregiving field, she answered quickly, “Adaptability and integrity”.
Judy joined Visiting Angels Southwest Michigan in 2021 as a part-time caregiver. Over the years she has truly demonstrated her dedication and compassion, assisting clients with a diverse range of needs from companionship to advanced care. Her expertise truly shines when working with clients who experience the negative symptoms of Alzheimer's and dementia. She is skillful in creating a safe and comforting environment for individuals with hallucinations or delusions, offering them validation with a positive approach to care.
Judy sets a high standard of care for herself, and by extension, the entire team here at Visiting Angels. She communicates frequently with us here at the office to ensure we know her clients' needs and facilitates follow-ups with their families. Judy truly embodies the core values of our organization, and we value her immensely!
During her leisure time, Judy embraces her Mediterranean heritage as a second-generation Armenian by participating in volunteer events at the annual Yassou! Greek Festival. She spends time with her son, Corey. They lived together in Maui for several years before she returned to Michigan to take care of her parents, which ultimately led to her passion for working with older adults.
