The world is full of scams & con artists!  Seniors are especially targeted by these criminals. They see seniors as an easier mark, and typically with greater assets. Tip #1- Run from any Demand to Pay
Be concerned if there is a request or demand to purchase or pay something to enter a contest, collect a prize, or even the suggestion that your odds might increase if you spend some money.  These high pressure tactics are a favorite of scammers. Legally you are not required to participate in any contest or collect a prize. You may be required to pay taxes to the IRS if you legitimately win something substantial. But there are scammers who use this strategy of requesting or demanding a "handling fee", "service fee" or "processing fee" for you to participate in a contest or collect winnings. Don't do it! Many times they are simply after your payment information, and once they get it, they will clean you out!
