The Promise of Easy Money... RUN!

At Visiting Angels of Tulsa, we encounter clients on a regular basis who have been conned, or narrow missed being taken advantage of by con artists. Crooks like to go after seniors, because many of them have considerable assets, and many times find themselves alone or detached from family who might be able to otherwise protect them.

The lure of easy money. It can be so tempting, but don't fall for this old scam... "It's the easiest money you will ever make!"  Those words, or a line similar to it, are the pitch of a desperate and crooked con artist. His or her goal is to convince a senior that they need to temporarily part with their money, and invest it this "project, endeavor or investment", and if they will only do so, they will multiply their initial investment many times over! If this type of approach is made to you or someone you love, then RUN! 

This pitch comes in a variety of ways... It might be couched in a prize/sweepstakes or raffle offer.  It also can come as a disguised offer to buy property, invest in a stock or some other tangible good purchase.  The best rule of thumb to remember is this... "If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is!"

When these situations arise, don't let greed or desperation cloud your judgment or good sense. Invest money wisely in projects or tangible goods that you can verify as being sound and legitimate. The best money made is that which is invested wisely, and built up over time. Resist the temptation to 'make a big score' with a quick investment.
