How to Know When It's Time to Adjust Your Senior Parent's In-Home Care Plan

When the needs of your loved one in Westminster, CO, start to change, it’s important that their in-home care plan changes, as well

Getting your senior parent set up with professional caregiving agency that works for them is great. However, once you have your loved one all set up, you may have recently figured out, that will not be the end of your involvement.

The nature of advanced age is such that a senior's circumstances can change in a matter of months, and in some cases, in a matter of weeks. Making sure your loved one is being well taken care of requires revisiting their in-home care plan. Thankfully, at Visiting Angels Westminster, we make this a regular part of our work with your parent. We always revisit our clients' home care plans from time to time. However, there are times when it is a good idea to revisit a senior care plan sooner than later. We wanted to take some time out to give you an idea of when it is a good idea to adjust your senior parent's care plan.

Adjusting In-Home Care Services

Planning ahead and being prepared for just about anything are both incredibly important aspects of providing your loved one with everything they need to live independently. When it comes to their home care services, it is a good idea to set aside some time once or twice a year to talk to your loved one about the support they are receiving. Certain seniors, like those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, would benefit from more frequent conversations, as their condition may change more rapidly.

Here are some questions you may want to ask your loved one:

  • Have you noticed any changes in your overall well-being?
  • Have you been feeling weaker or less mobile recently?
  • Generally speaking, are you comfortable? If not, why?
  • Is your current in-home care plan meeting all of your needs?
  • Do you think there are services you could benefit from?

It is always a good idea to check in with your loved one from time to time. However, you shouldn't worry that if you do not they will go without the support they need. Their caregiver will always be keeping an eye on them and will notify you if they notice any changes or if your loved one may  be in need of additional support.

How to Update Your Loved One’s Care Plan

The good news is that adjusting your loved one's care plan is easy. In some cases, it can be done with as little as a quick phone call.

“Great home care means rising to the occasion,” says Visiting Angels President and CEO, Larry Meigs. “That’s especially true when clients’ develop new challenges or difficulties.”
