Healthcare Hero: Helen Gobeil

This was adapted from the original article by George O’Brien that appeared in full-length in the Healthcare News and Business West magazines.1,2

Visiting Angels of West Springfield is proud to announce that Helen Gobeil has been nominated as a Healthcare Hero of Western Massachusetts by Business West!!!  We are honored to have such a prominent and popular magazine name Helen as one of their selections for 2020.  The honors, which started in 2017, choose only the top candidates of Western Mass who stand out within the Healthcare industry.

Helen, who started at Visiting Angels of West Springfield in 2008, has since been the backbone of all of the staffing, coordination, client care assistance, and more!  She is truly the heart and soul of this organization and we are so proud she has been selected as a Healthcare Hero for 2020!

Even more so, George O’Brien had nothing but wonderful words to say about Helen in his published article in both Business West and Healthcare News.  He went on to say the following in this excerpt from his article:

“She would eventually grow into the position and became adept at handling the many responsibilities within the job description, said her boss, Michele Anstett, president and CEO of the company, adding quickly that this was a good thing because all those talents would be needed when COVID-19 arrived in Western Mass.

Indeed, every aspect of this job, from recruiting caregivers to consulting with new clients; from matching caregivers with these clients to scheduling regular care and coordinating care in emergency situations, would become more difficult. Much more difficult.

And there would be new responsibilities added to that already-long list, including the daunting task of providing PPE for those caregivers and providing a compassionate ear to family members coping with something they would struggle to get both hands around.

“COVID-19 has not only presented physical challenges, but also mental ones, including severe anxiety and depression and exacerbating loneliness, isolation, and sleep problems, particularly in the senior population,” Michele wrote. “To this end, Helen has not only served to protect the health of seniors across Western Massachusetts, but she has also given peace of mind to the families, seniors, and caregivers.””
