Activities To Enjoy This Spring

As the weather gets warmer, it’s a great opportunity to enjoy everything spring offers. Consider these spring and senior-friendly activities as you plan your next outdoor adventure. You never know. You might find your next favorite hobby!

Outdoor Activities To Enjoy

If you feel like you’ve been cooped up in the house all winter and are looking for fun ways to explore outside the home, consider these senior-friendly outdoor activities.

Walking/Hiking

Colorado is one of the nation’s hubs for picturesque hiking. Hiking is a great activity for seniors who want to improve their cardio and build strength, especially in the legs, calves, and core.

Put on comfortable and supportive shoes, grab a huge water bottle, and pack some snacks as you take on one of Grand Junction’s hiking trails. Many trails have different routes based on how challenging you want the hike to be. If you’re new to hiking, always check the maps before you set out to ensure you’re somewhere with relatively flat and smooth trails. The Colorado Riverfront Trail has stunning views and is paved, making hiking safe for people of all ages.

Golf

Golf is the perfect outdoor activity if you’re looking for a low-intensity activity that will get you moving and allow you to relax. Grand Junction is home to many public golf courses with amazing mountain scenery. Tiara Rado Golf Course and Lincoln Park Golf Course are two of the more popular public courses. If you’re a seasoned golfer, you may want to consider joining one of the public golf course golf leagues.

Fishing

Sometimes, it’s nice to get outside and enjoy the scenery without too much physical activity. If that sounds like your perfect day, consider fishing at one of Grand Junction’s many fishing spots

Two major rivers run through Grand Junction. There are also more than 300 alpine lakes and numerous ponds to enjoy. You’ll find bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish within these waters, many of which are within the regulations to bring home and cook up for a healthy dinner.

Indoor Activities To Enjoy

The great outdoors isn’t for everyone. If you’d prefer to spend your free time inside, try these indoor activities this spring.

Indoor Garden

If the idea of gardening appeals to you, but you don’t have the yard space for a full garden, you may want to consider planting an indoor or patio garden. Many people grow things like spices and herbs in their kitchen, giving them access to fresh seasonings when they cook. If you have a small outdoor space, you can grow vegetables and fruits, such as tomatoes, strawberries, and peppers, in pots.

Home Refresh

A home or room refresh is the perfect spring activity for the crafty individual. A home refresh is more than a simple spring cleaning. It’s about finding creative ways to revamp your space with recycled or thrifted materials. You can also try rearranging your rooms by putting different decorative items in different spaces to see how they change the mood of each room. Even something as simple as replacing throw pillows or curtains with a different color can bring about a fresh feeling of change.

Reading

Getting lost in a good book is the perfect way to explore new realms and places without leaving the comfort of your favorite chair. Reading is also a great way to unwind at the end of your day and help you fall asleep. Head to your local Mesa County library branch, renew your library card and enjoy endless physical copies and eBooks.
