In partnership with the Veteran Administration, we help active duty military, naval, or air service veterans explore their options and eligibility for in-home care.

At Visiting Angels Green Bay, we understand the sensitive needs of military vets. Senior veterans face challenges living independently, and many are more prone to struggling with PTSD, Alzheimer’s disease, and other health matters earlier in life than civilians. 

The Veteran Administration offers several programs to help your loved one get the quality care they deserve without the financial burden.

What Benefits Are Available Through the VA Programs?

Visiting Angels Green Bay is proud to offer home care services to veterans in the Green Bay, WI region. Your VA benefits gain you access to many services provided at Visiting Angels, including

• Activities of Daily Living (ADL) bathing, dressing, eating, etc.
• Light housekeeping, meal prep, and laundry
• Errand running
• Medication management and reminders
• Companionship and emotional support
• Specialized care for Alzheimer’s and dementia
• Respite care for designated loved ones

How Do I Qualify for Veterans’ Benefits?

Two programs can help you get the at-home care your loved one needs: VA Aid and Attendance Benefits and Housebound Allowance and VA Homemaker and Home Health Aide Care (H/HHA) Program. 

Both of these programs have specific eligibility requirements that our Visiting Angels Green Bay team can help you review and gather information needed to complete the request for benefits.

VA Aid And Attendance Benefits and Housebound Allowance

The Aid and Attendance program provides financial assistance to veterans and/or their surviving spouses requiring assistance with ADL. You can use program benefits to cover the costs of 

• In-home care
• Assisted living facilities
• Nursing homes

Eligibility is based on the veteran having served at least 90 days of active duty with at least one day during wartime. Additionally, the veteran must meet income and asset requirements and require assistance with ADL.

VA Homemaker and Home Health Aide (H/HHA) Program

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provides a benefit called the VA Homemaker and Home Health Aide (H/HAA) program. The H/HHA provides your qualifying loved one with skilled care services deemed medically necessary by their attending VA physician. 

How does your loved one qualify for this VA program? They must be enrolled in the VA healthcare system and (as determined by their VA physician) require in-home care. Some medical necessities requiring in-home care are wound care, physical/occupational therapy, and medication management.

Eligibility into the H/HHA supports your veteran loved one with access to assistance with a wide range of daily living tasks to help maintain safety and independence within their homes. This program is available at no cost from the VA healthcare system.
