Who can qualify for these programs?
The Veterans Administration helped establish these programs under the Homemaker Home Health Aide Care Act for veterans who need personalized care at home. You may qualify for the HHHA or VA Aid and Attendance program if you or your loved one is a US military veteran and meet the criteria set by VA.
All enrolled veterans are eligible for the program, but it may not be available in some areas and some veterans may not meet the eligibility criteria:
- If you don’t need assistance with at least one of the following: running errands, buying groceries, attending medical appointments, cooking healthy meals, remembering to take medications, bathing, and getting dressed
- You didn’t receive a dishonorable discharge
- If you enlisted after September 7, 1980, or entered active duty after October 16, 1981
- You must have served 24 continuous months or the full period for which you were called to active duty (but some exceptions apply)
