Local Couple With a Heart for Home Care

Stephen and Tara Novak’s commitment to home care began during a turning point in their lives. After Stephen, an experienced tool design engineer in Detroit’s auto industry, was unexpectedly laid off, and Tara, a compassionate registered nurse at Corewell Health (formerly Beaumont Hospital), was on maternity leave after their firstborn, the couple began searching for something that would offer their family more stability and greater purpose.

A casual conversation during a visit to the Detroit Zoo unexpectedly sparked their interest in senior care. After learning about the Visiting Angels network and meeting with another local office, they felt a calling inside that they hadn’t expected.

Caring for Michigan Seniors Two Decades and Counting…

With a leap of faith and their shared vision, Stephen and Tara opened their first Visiting Angels office in Utica, Michigan, in the fall of 2004. The overwhelming response from local families quickly led to expansion.

Today, we continue to care for elderly adults in our community, and our pledge to provide excellent home care services remains our driving force.

As long-time Michigan residents, high school sweethearts, and proud parents of three daughters, we built our home care agency on the same values we uphold in our family at home. These values are trust, dependability, and a strong sense of community.

Community Involvement & Philanthropy

Giving back is something our family and our caregivers strive for. Through events like the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at the Detroit Zoo and our signature sit-on-the-roof fundraiser, our team has raised over $215,000 in support of the Alzheimer’s Association. We’re also proud to support the Michigan Parkinson Foundation, helping to improve awareness and raise funding for those impacted by Parkinson’s disease in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
