Four Reasons for Optimism at the Start of the New Year

Four Reasons for Optimism at the Start of the New Year

No doubt about it, 2020 was a challenging year. As the holiday season gets into full swing and this challenging year draws to a close, there are plenty of reasons to celebrate. Sure, our holiday festivities may not look the same as they have in the past. But we have many reasons to be grateful and optimistic as we prepare to welcome the new year.

Staying connected via social

It’s always the right time to learn a new skill, and it’s an especially fitting occasion to do so as the New Year comes into view. As you prepare for this holiday season, consider getting yourself operational on social media with Visiting Angels Social Care. Work at your own pace, and learn how to shop safely online. Plus, learn social media basics. It’s the perfect time of the year to catch up with your friends and family, build your network, and reconnect.

Social media is fun and interactive, especially as you’re just getting started. You’ll be surprised to see all the people you find and with whom you can connect. Likewise, having the chance to FaceTime family members and friends is a gamechanger - a phone call is so different when you can see the person with whom you are speaking!

One of the pandemic challenges has been the feeling of isolation that we’ve all been experiencing. Having the chance to reach out and use this technology will give you a real sense of optimism and joy for 2020.

Keep in mind that a Visiting Angels Social Care session makes a great holiday gift for your loved one.

COVID relief

“The end of the coronavirus pandemic is finally within sight,” declared the Washington Post’s Adam Taylor.  A COVID vaccine is on the way, and seniors stand high on the list of early vaccine recipients.

While it can feel stressful to think through the logistics of how you might facilitate getting your dose of COVID vaccine once it becomes available, know that your VA Caregiver has your back. You can count on your caregiver to get you there and give you a ride to any other medical appointments you have. That way, you can stay safe and healthy and return to normal in 2021.

A new normal in 2021

National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci points out that if the “overwhelming majority” of Americans get the COVID vaccine, life could start looking normal again in 2021. Dr. Fauci explains: “That would allow you to safely get people back to school in the fall, to safely get people back to the kinds of work that would otherwise be difficult as you get to the middle and the end of the summer.”

It’s nice to imagine seeing your Visiting Angels caregiver’s face rather than a mask and to imagine being able to take day trips with your caregiver to visit the garden center, the farmer’s market, the library. Even the grocery store will be a fun adventure after all this time indoors.

It’s wonderful to imagine that we will be able to be together with our families again. Children won’t have to tread carefully around their grandparents. We will be safe in each other’s company again. We can start imagining those times now because we stand to see them in 2021.

A caregiver you can count on

For whatever comes along, whether we need to take more time at home or we are finally free to spend more time out and about and with our loved ones, your Visiting Angels caregiver is here to help you make the arrangement work. From making your home clean, sanitized, and supplied to assisting you to get groomed, bathed, and dressed for an appointment or outing, you can count on your caregiver to make life easy, healthy, and comfortable.

Our approach to care grows with you and your changing needs. Through our Life Care Navigation System, we offer a broad spectrum of services personally tailored to support you as you age. We’ve got you covered, even when something unexpected, like a pandemic, comes along. This way, you can face your future with confidence and optimism.
