How do I know when it's time to bring in help for a senior?
Once an elder has fallen down, or repeatedly forgotten to take their prescription medications, we usually get a call from their concerned family member. If you find yourself worrying every time your phone rings that something might’ve happened to your loved one, it is probably time to seriously consider the services of a professional caregiver. If you wait too long, you might find yourself making tough decisions under extreme pressure, which is not ideal.
What if my aging relative refuses the care we sign up for?
First off, you’re not alone. This is a common problem we deal with. Many seniors come from a generation where they’d only allow company if the house, and themselves, were fully cleaned and presentable for company. Allowing a caregiver to see them at their worst causes embarrassment or frustration. Plus, seniors may resist extra help because it feels like they have lost their rights to independence. You can always start with a small care plan where our caregiver only visits a few times a week. After a while, the resistance tends to fade when a client recognizes how nice it is to have the extra set of hands around the house.
What does a Visiting Angels caregiver actually do during a visit?
Your dedicated caregiver will do whatever the care plan outlines in terms of showering assistance, cooking, feeding, laundry, dishes, changing sheets, vacuuming, and more. What happens if our caregiver calls off?
We do our absolute best when hiring caregivers to find the most reliable individuals; however, sometimes things are out of our control. If your dedicated caregiver has called out for any reason, we will send a different caregiver to retain the continuity of care for your loved one.
Can we change our scheduled visits after care starts?
Of course! Visiting Angels is flexible about care plans because we understand that a person’s needs will ultimately change at some point, so their care plan should change with them. With notice to our office, you can increase or decrease your hours and types of care.
