Local Nashua Caregiver Named Finalist for National Award
Visiting Angels, the nation’s leading provider of in-home senior care, announces Gloria Dela Cruz of Nashua, New Hampshire, as one of the 10 semi-finalists for its prestigious National Caregiver of the Year award.
joined Visiting Angels Nashua more than three years ago and has provided nearly 7,000 hours of care. Gloria is known for her exceptional care and unwavering positivity in difficult caregiving situations, particularly in her work with a client battling Alzheimer’s.
“Gloria has a unique ability to connect with the most challenging clients,” said Louise Murphy, owner of Visiting Angels Nashua. “Through her empathy and understanding of their needs, she’s transformed the lives of several clients, whether that’s helping a husband understand the complexities of his wife’s advanced Alzheimer’s diagnosis, preparing a lobster Christmas dinner for a client, or understanding how to keep a house kosher.”
Gloria’s caregiving for Jan, a client with Alzheimer’s, went beyond helping just her. While Gloria cared for Jan and helped her with daily activities, Jan’s husband, Perry, was able to find time for himself. Perry took up activities like piano lessons and library visits, things he hadn’t done for years. Gloria helped Perry understand what Jan was going through and taught him ways to support her.
“When my wife’s disease proceeded with a vengeance, Gloria remained steadfast with her care for Jan, even when Jan would become highly agitated,” said Perry. “Gloria was the equilibrium within the house. I am emotionally okay today because of Gloria.”
Visiting Angels’ National Caregiver of the Year Award celebrates the extraordinary contributions of caregivers who go above and beyond to provide care for their senior clients and their families. The semi-finalists were selected from entries throughout the nationwide Visiting Angels franchise locations. The caregivers nominated embody Visiting Angels’ compassionate values and demonstrate excellence through the quality care they provide.

Visiting Angels will announce the Caregiver of the Year winner at its annual conference in June. The winner will receive a $5,000 prize, and two finalists will each receive a check for $2,500.
