Luann has lived on Custer Avenue in Clawson since 1971. Her husband sadly passed four years ago, her daughter lives in Grand Rapids, and the house she raised her family in is the one place she had no intention of leaving.
At 81, Luann could still manage most things. But mornings were getting harder than they used to be with more aches and pains, less energy and less spirit than before. Adult daughters like Luann’s call us every week about their elderly parents. Even though everyone’s situation is different, the question is always the same: how do we help mom stay home, and how can we stop worrying so much while she does?
If you’re thinking the same thing about your aging relative, Visiting Angels is ready and willing to send a qualified caregiver to give your senior more help at home.
Clawson Senior Care for Daily Living
Visiting Angels offers a nice variety of home care services that are combined in different ways by each client. Among them, bathing and grooming, nutritious meal preparation, housekeeping, medication reminders, transportation to medical appointments or running errands. Companionship for someone like Luann who's otherwise alone from morning to night.
We build schedules around the person, not around what's administratively convenient. Luann's caregiver shows up three mornings a week. She helps with breakfast, runs a load of laundry, pops over to Kroger when needed, and sometimes drives Luann to the Blair Memorial Library on Main Street for another book by Jodi Picoult. On days the caregiver isn't there, Luann still has her routines. Our care isn't replacing her independence; rather it's protecting it.
Our reliable, trained caregivers will show up consistently, make the day manageable for our client and do what work needs to be done. If a family caregiver is doing these things on their own and need time off, we cover them too with our Respite Care option. Needing a break means you're doing a lot, and three hours on a Tuesday might be the ticket to keep your whole arrangement sustainable for the long haul.
Basic vs Specialized Care
Standard non-medical home care covers daily living, and that’s about half of the families we work with.
But some clients will need more than that and we know firsthand how much Alzheimer's services and dementia home care means for seniors whose cognitive decline requires a trained caregiver with experience.
Ours are trained specifically for memory care to manage confusion, redirection, and behavior changes. This is quite different from sending a senior companion to visit.
Live-in care is also available for clients who need round-the-clock coverage. For veterans, Aid and Attendance benefits through the VA can cover a meaningful portion of their home care costs. (Older vets often resist asking for help, but when the financial piece isn’t an issue, the conversation changes).
Luann didn’t need memory care, just a dependable, friendly home aide. It’s a distinction worth noting before you start making calls to home care agencies in Clawson.
Why Our Home Care Feels Personal
Stephen and Tara Novak proudly opened Visiting Angels in October of 2004 to serve Clawson seniors. Two decades later, Stephen is actively involved in the care of his own elderly father as well as heavily involved in our agency’s operation. We’re a family-run agency, and we treat our caregivers and clients as extensions of this family.
We’ve been lucky enough to earn recognition for how personal and meaningful we keep our care services. Activated Insights has dubbed us the Best Home Care Provider in our area for many years in a row. We have over a hundred Google reviews and carry a 4.8 star rating.
