If you're a veteran living in Vancouver, Washington, and you need more help to live independently at home, there's a good chance the VA will cover it! Most veterans who qualify for VA healthcare can apply for the Homemaker/Home Health Aide program to cover the costs of non-medical home care.

Robert and Amy Loudenback have owned and operated Visiting Angels here since 2006. This is one of the longest-running home care agencies in Vancouver, and working with veterans is part of what makes us proud to do what we do.

What the VA's H/HHA Program Covers from Visiting Angels

The VA's Homemaker/Home Health Aide program is for veterans who need assistance with activities of daily living but don't require nursing care. If a veteran needs help getting dressed or getting in and out of the shower, preparing meals, or managing their household, that's what this benefit is for.

To apply, a veteran needs to be enrolled in VA healthcare. Then, the VA evaluates your request based on your health status, functional limitations among other service-related factors. There's no application fee. If approved, the VA assigns an authorized home care agency. You'll want to request us by name.

Applying at the Local VA Offices in Washington

Veterans service staff at our local offices can help you with the paperwork to apply. We also know a bit about how the process works, and we're happy to explain what to expect before you call the VA directly.

The Vancouver VA Medical Center handles enrollment and H/HHA program applications for veterans in this area. If you're in Cowlitz County, the Cowlitz County Veterans Service Center in Longview is another option. Here is the contact information both offices below:

What Our Caregivers Do

Our caregivers are CNAs or Washington State-certified Home Care Aides. We help with personal care, which includes bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting assistance, and medication reminders. We also cook & reheat meals, perform light housekeeping, laundry, and transportation to appointments.

A lot of veterans living alone benefit from having a caregiver there during the day to spend quality time with, not just someone showing up to complete household chores.

If a veteran is dealing with memory loss, we have caregivers with specific Alzheimer's and dementia care training available.
