"I can't say enough about the care they provided for my 94 year old dad with advanced Alzheimer's. He required a level of care that was very difficult and the caregivers were excellent. I was very impressed with the ongoing training the caregivers receive and I would recommend them to anyone that needs memory care for a loved one."

When an elderly relative is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, you may immediately start worrying about their safety and about the unexpected challenges in the months and years to come. Since Alzheimer's disease is a progressive disorder, the early stages might not require quite the same level of care as will be needed later. What you decide to put in place today has to be able to grow with these changes.

Visiting Angels has provided quality caregiving to seniors in Fort Worth in need of early, mid and late-stage Alzheimer’s home care.

Alzheimer’s Care Available Wherever You Call Home

To help keep your loved one safe, it is important to have an experienced memory care professional in place. Our Alzheimer's home care picks up where your doctor's medical care leaves off. We visit clients at their homes, apartments or assisted living facilities to provide one-on-one attention, companionship and personal care services.

One of the hardest facts to face about Alzheimer’s is that a person’s needs will inevitably change or increase as time goes by. The care plan you develop today might not fit in a year from now. We customized care plans around each individual client so that as their condition progresses or other health conditions like diabetes or heart disease arise, we would adjust the plan, add services and shift caregivers’ schedules as needed. Listed below are a few of the core Alzheimer’s services that are home aides perform with or for clients with cognitive impairment:

Medication Reminders
Client Symptom Monitoring
Wandering Prevention
Help with walking and fall prevention
Assist with personal hygiene
Cooking meals and/or feeding
Run errands and grocery-shop
Transportation to appointments
Lightly organize and maintain cleanliness of the residence
Companionship
Cognitive engagement activities

Trained Memory Caregivers in Fort Worth

When your loved one feels confused about where they are at, agitated for an unknown reason, or resists taking a bath, a trained caregiver responds differently than someone who isn’t. We have caregivers who are specifically trained for Alzheimer’s support at home. Our training program which Dale Brock developed, was reviewed by the Alzheimer’s Association and is the first of its kind to carry that credential.

Our caregivers have been educated in how the disorder progresses, how to maintain the routine to keep clients calm and how to handle challenging situations that would otherwise make family caregiving so exhausting without our help.

Respite Care Gives Family Caregivers a Break

It goes without saying that many family members will try doing the caregiving alone before they give Visiting Angels a call. The adult children are responsible for everything from their parent’s medication schedules to their food and safety at home. The high level of responsibility is widely known to take a toll that only grows harder as Alzheimer’s stages advance. Our Respite Care option is there to give family caregivers without having to worry whether their loved one will be okay without them, even temporarily. Respite Care is how caregiving stays sustainable.

Free In-Home Memory Care Consultation

Our non-medical Alzheimer’s support is tailored to care for any individual needing help with bathing, dressing, medication reminders, meal preparation, housekeeping, transportation or companionship. It would also include safety-specific services unique to Alzheimer’s disease such as wandering prevention and fall prevention measures.

We offer free memory care consultations at your home or the home of the prospective client so we can meet them, learn about their diagnosis, see how they prefer things to be done and develop a feel for their personality. At your request, we can also speak with their physicians before care begins.

If you or your aging relative has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and you wish to prioritize their wishes to stay at home, please call Visiting Angels in Fort Worth at (817) 877-1616 to discuss our Alzheimer’s home care services.

Alzheimer’s Care FAQs

Do your caregivers visit clients in the evenings?

Yes, we have caregivers available to visit clients day or night, including evening hours.

Do Visiting Angels stay overnight?

Yes, in addition to daytime shifts, Visiting Angels offers overnight options including Live-In Care or Round-the-Clock care. These differ slightly in that live-in care consists of one caregiver who sleeps when her client sleeps while round-the-clock care consists of two caregivers that work in shifts. Both are available for 24-hour coverage.

What if my mom or dad resists having a caregiver in their home?

Because our caregivers are trained to deal with pushback or difficult personality types, we feel that introducing the caregiver slowly and seeing the same person each time builds familiarity and de-escalates the amount of resistance - especially after they begin to see how helpful our caregiver can be at each visit.

What kind of caregiver do we need for memory impairment?

While there are independent caregivers in our area, Visiting Angels caregivers have undergone special training on how to best calm individuals who may become easily frustrated with their lack of memory or cognitive impairment. Further, our caregivers are employees of our agency, not independent contractors, who are licensed and insured with oversight and ongoing monitoring from our management team.
