About Visiting Angels of East Stroudsburg

Even though our agency opened in 2011, I guess you could say our story really began in 1978.

My mother, Barbara, had become a widow. She was tasked with raising me at 16 alone, without my father, or a job. She had grit and worked so hard to keep our house. Once I was old enough, I took a job part time (while going to school). I knew never to ask my mom for money, and once I started earning my own income, she emphasized the importance of putting it in the bank for safe keeping. ”You never know when the rainy day is coming." she’d say after each reminder.

Well, that “rainy day” did come. It was August of 2002. I was at mom’s house and couldn’t ignore the multiple signs that something about her was very off. Her checkbook wasn’t balanced, food had spoiled, projects started but not finished and her medications were not taken. In fact, I would later find pills tucked in places throughout my mom’s house.

Carrying On Her Legacy of Kindness, Caring and Compassion

Ultimately, it was Alzheimer's disease that took my mother's vitality and stripped away her life.

Since mom was relatively frugal with her finances, we were able to hire elder care professionals who visited her at home where she was familiar with her surroundings, rather than having to uproot her anyplace new. We hired a team of competent caregivers who were reliable, resourceful and respectful.

These are exactly the same values that we expect from our Visiting Angels. When we accept a new client, I still see my mother’s face in each one. I feel a sense of gratitude and peace knowing that our team of extraordinary caregivers will treat elderly clients as if it was their own aging relative.

Me and Mike started Visiting Angels in my mother’s honor. My life’s story prepared me for this type of work, and truly wish to make a difference in yours.

My mother taught me to prepare for rainy days. She also showed me that when those days come, you face them head on and you don't face them alone. That's what we're here for.
