Aid & Attendance Benefit

The VA Aid and Attendance Benefit is a monthly pension supplement for wartime veterans and surviving spouses who need help with activities of daily living, such as feeding, dressing, bathing, and toileting. Income restrictions apply.

Housebound Benefit

The VA Housebound Benefit is for veterans who spend most or all of their time in their home because a permanent disability requires them to do so. This is a separate benefit from Aid and Attendance, and a veteran cannot receive both.

VA Community Care Network (Direct Authorization)

The VA Community Care Network differs substantially from pension-based benefits - it allows eligible veterans to receive care approved and paid for by the VA, often with no out-of-pocket cost to the veteran.

When a veteran's VA primary care provider determines that community care is needed, the VA authorizes it and pays for it directly. Common authorization paths include when the veteran has an extended travel distance from the nearest VA facility, requires specialized care, or if the veteran prefers to use it (in certain cases).
