Before April and I started the Visiting Angels serving Norfolk, Portsmouth and Suffolk, we were caregivers for our parents. We experienced first-hand the need for good senior care. We know the difference a quality, trained, and reliable caregiver can make -- not only for the person they support -- but for the families as well. And we understand the need for a caring individual who has a gentle soul and a soft touch. So, we used the money our parents left us to build a home care company that "did it right." That hired the most compassionate caregivers possible to provide the best care possible. Our philosophy is to treat all of the people we support as if they were our own Mom or Dad. Bottom line.
Because We Care About People, Not Just for Them
Almost any home care company can come in and provide care for your mom or dad. They provide a care plan -- i.e., a list of tasks for the caregiver to accomplish that day. The caregiver goes into the home, follows the checklist, and checks off when tasks are complete. The care is complete when the checklist is complete. Those care plans are great tools; they are the roadmap for Mom and Dad's care. We even use them. However, Mom and Dad aren't always on the road. That's where our person-centered care is most effective. We care about your Mom and Dad. Our caregivers are trained to focus on the person they are supporting, anticipate their needs, adapt to them at the moment, and to advocate for their care. They watch for those moments Mom and Dad may be getting derailed and to help get them back on the road. The caregivers are also trained to pay attention to Mom and Dad's emotional state to keep them positive, to encourage them to socialize, and to enable them to live a quality life. We go in each day with the goal to make a difference in someone's life. All while checking off the daily tasks on the care plan.

We know homecare is a relationship and trust business as much as it is a care business. We only hire the best caregivers possible. When we screen them, we focus on their passion. We wouldn't hire a caregiver if we wouldn't put them with our Mom or Dad. All our caregivers are trained to meet state requirements to accomplish the job. They also have a monthly training requirement. And they get a bonus for 5-star performances.
