At Visiting Angels in Sterling Heights, Michigan, we believe that caring for a loved one is more than a service, it is about connection and family. Stephen and Tara Novak have been proudly serving Michigan families with senior care, respite services, palliative care and transitional care since 2004.

Our Story

Owners Stephen Novak, a former tool design engineer in the Detroit automotive industry, and Tara Novak, a registered nurse with 15 years of experience at Corewell Health (formerly known as Beaumont Hospital), began their Visiting Angels journey during a tumultuous time in their lives when Stephen was laid off and they just welcomed their first child.

Stephen and Tara sought a more secure and meaningful career path that would support their growing family so by chance, during a trip to the Detroit Zoo, they chatted with a stranger and learned about Visiting Angels home care.

After researching the company and meeting the Visiting Angels leadership team at a neighboring location, they knew senior care was their calling.

Launched Local Visiting Angels in 2004

Within weeks, we made the life-changing decision to open our own Visiting Angels location in October 2004 and never looked back. We opened our first office on Hall Road in Utica, Michigan where business rapidly grew, and just four years later, we moved into a larger office in Sterling Heights, where we’ve proudly served families ever since. This year marks 20 years of service and counting!

We consider ourselves more than business owners; we are caregivers ourselves. Stephen currently cares for his own elderly father, giving him a deep understanding into what truly matters when entrusting someone with care for a loved one.

As high school sweethearts married since 1995 and proud parents to three beautiful daughters, we’ve built our Visiting Angels agency on the same foundation that guides our family - love, loyalty, and unwavering commitment.

Partnerships & Philanthropy

Giving back is an important part of who we are at Visiting Angels in Sterling Heights. We work closely with the Alzheimer’s Association. We have proudly raised over $215,000 to support their mission. Over the past 15 years, we’ve participated in numerous fundraising efforts, including the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at the Detroit Zoo and our well-known sit-on-the-roof event. We’ve also collaborated with the Michigan Parkinson Foundation by contributing to their efforts through community events and awareness campaigns.
