Home Care Services for Veterans
Home Care Services for Veterans in Southeast Houston and the Bay Area
As a veteran, you may be aware of the health care benefits provided by the Veterans Health Administration, however, did you know that in-home care is part of the benefits package? If you are a veteran and are finding daily tasks are becoming more challenging, then you may want to consider in-home care options for veterans.
Homemaker and Home Health Aide Care (H/HHA) Programs
The homemaker and home health aide care (H/HHA) are two programs offered by the VA. These programs offer assistance to veterans to help them remain safe, comfortable, and independent at home. Some of the home care services that can be provided include:
- Personal care assistance such as bathing, dressing, eating
- Meal prep & light housekeeping
- Medication reminders
- Transportation assistance and running errands
- Specialized care for Alzheimer’s and dementia
- Emotional support and companionship
- Respite care for families
- And more
Qualifying for Veterans’ Benefits
If you were active-duty military, air or naval service, and did not leave under dishonorable conditions (or if you're the qualified dependent of someone who fits that definition), then you or your surviving spouse may be eligible for Veteran health care benefits.
The H/HHA program is covered by the VA healthcare system, and at no cost. Veterans may be responsible for copayments depending on their income level and other factors.
VA Aid and Attendance (A&A) pension benefit
The VA Aid and Attendance pension is an extra benefit that could help cover the cost of daily senior care, whether it’s provided at home, in assisted living, or in a nursing home. The program provides monthly payments of tax-free funds up to:
- $1,936 per month for a veteran
- $1,244 per month for a surviving spouse
- or $2,295 per month for a veteran and spouse
This is a need-based benefit that veterans will need to qualify for. The application for A&A can take several months to complete, but the effort is worth it.
