The private caregivers at Visiting Angels of Lehigh Valley - Bethlehem are the reason that we stand out from other local homecare agencies because we build meaningful connections with our clients! Many of us work with the same families for months or years. Over time, we turn into a trusted friend in a senior’s daily life.

We have both men and women on our caregiving staff who live and work in the same local neighborhoods that you do!

What Our Private Caregivers Do

The day-to-day responsibilities of our private caregivers will always change somewhat based on each client's customized care plan. Generally speaking, our caregivers will handle things like meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, help with bathing and personal hygiene, assistance with dressing and mobility, and companionship.

The goal for all of us at Visiting Angels is to keep our seniors safe, comfortable, and as independent as possible in their own homes! And, we know we’ve done our job well when we read our customer reviews who praise angels (like Yolanda, Elizabeth or Carol) by name in their testimonials.

To demonstrate our commitment to our clients and our local community, our caregivers participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer's each year. We also contribute to donation drives for local charities like the Family Promise of the Poconos and the Bethlehem Township Volunteer Fire Company.

How We Select Professional Caregivers

Every caregiver completes background checks and reference verification before getting hired by Visiting Angels. We look for individuals who are patient and attentive, often caregivers have previous healthcare experience too.

Bethlehem Caregiver on Chest CompressionsOnce you are hired, caregivers go through onboarding training at Visiting Angels University. After that, we also have ongoing trainings like Teepa Snow's Positive Approach® to Care that covers dementia and memory care topics

We also do special trainings right here in Bethlehem! Earlier this year, our caregivers spent a day learning about Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness Training from the Bethlehem Township Volunteer Fire Company. We practiced helpful, life-saving things like CPR, chest compressions, learned how to dress wounds during emergencies and about fire prevention protocols or how to identify hazards in a home.

If you consider yourself to be a compassionate, reliable person driven to make a difference in a senior’s life, you might consider becoming a private caregiver with Visiting Angels in Bethlehem. See our current openings for details if you are interested.

Recognizing Caregivers for Excellence

In addition to clients’ satisfaction, it is also important to recognize our caregivers for their hard work.  This recognition goes a long way to help our team feel valued and it is precisely why our top-rated Visiting Angels in Lehigh Valley was voted Best Home Care Employer of Choice consecutive years in a row.  New caregivers will earn their "Angel Bethlehem Visiting Angels BanquetWings" after completing their first 90 days with us. We also run a Caregiver of the Month program. Each year, we host our annual Angel Awards banquet to recognize their outstanding commitment to clients.

We are excited to share that in addition to our local caregiver of the month program, our caregivers have actually earned national recognition for excellence. In fact, in 2022, one of our caregivers, Paula P, won the national contest to be named the official "Caregiver of the Year" across all caregivers working at Visiting Angels in the United States. In 2026, our caregiver named Becky, was also named among the top 10 caregivers in the nation! We are so proud of them!
