Veteran Care & Benefits

VA Benefits:

  1. Helping Veterans maintain independence and continue living in their homes.
  2. Flexible scheduling based on the Veteran’s needs.
  3. Helps reduce caregiver stress and supports the health and well-being of both the Veteran and their family.
  4. Available to all enrolled Veterans who have ADL needs.

1. Home Health Aide/Homemaker - Assist Veterans with activites of daily living (ADL).

2. Respite - Temporary relief for family caregivers of Veterans.

3. Program of Comprehensive Assitance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC) - Enhanced clinical support and benefits for eligible caregivers of Veterans with a 70% disablity rating or higher.

4. Veterans Directed Care - Consumer-driven model that provides vaterans with the ability to manage their own care and the services they receive.

VA Eligibility:

Service-Connected Disabilities:

Veterans with service-connected disabilities are automatically eligible for VA health benefits, regardless or thier income or financial status.

Military Service Requirements: 

Must have served in the active military, naval, or air service and separated under any conditions other than dishonorable.

Enlistment Dates:

Priot to September 7, 1980 - Annual income less than $56,700.

After September 7, 1980 - Annual income less than $56,700 and served 24 continuous months of active duty.

VA Aid & Attendance Pension:

Aid and Attendance is an additional monetary benefit for eligible wastime Veterans and their surviving spouses who require increased care sue to disability or advanced age.

Provides Monthly Pension for Care Cost:

Ranging from $1,478 to $2,727 for Veterans, spouses, or surviving spouses.

Eligibility:

Based on military service, health needs, monthly income, and total assets.

Supplement Home Health Aide:

Aid & Attendance pension is a tax-free benefit and can be combined with Home Health Aide (HHA) services for additional support.

Aid & Attendance Qualifications:

The Veteran must have servied a minimum of 90 days active duty with at least 1 day during the following wartime periods and received an honorable, general or medical discharge.

  • World War II (Dec 7, 1971 - Dec 31, 1946)
  • Korean Conflict (June 27, 1950 - Jan 31, 1955)
  • Vietnam Era (Aug 5, 1964 - My 7, 1975; Veterans who served in the Republic of Vietnam between 11/1/55 - 8/4/64)
  • American Merchant Marines (Dec 7, 1941 - Aug 15, 1945)
  • Gulf War (Aug 2, 1990 - future date to be set)

Additional Factors:

  • Health Requirements - Must demonstrate a regular need for assistance with ADLs.
  • Net Worth Limitations - Up to $155,356 in net worth. Home, car, and up to 2 acres of land is exempt until sold.
  • For Surviving Spouses - Surviving spouse must have been married to the Veteran at the time of their death and not remarried.

Applying for Benefits: 

Veteran Service Officers (VSOs) are trained and accredited individuals recognized by the VA to assist Veterans with claims, applying for health benefits and pension. All FREE of charge.

4. By Mail - Sign and complete a 10-10EZ form with required documentation. Click here to download the form.

What to Expect in 6 Easy Steps:

1. Appointment with Primary Care Physician within the VA Health System.

2. Care need is identified, and referral sent to the caseworker.

3. VA caseworker determines the type and quantity of authorized care.

4. Veteran selects home care agency of choice.

5. Referral is sent to agency of choice.

6. Care schedule is created.
